Chickenloaf, the Cat of the Day
Name: Chickenloaf
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female
Breed: American Short Hair
Home: University Park, Pennsylvania, USA

Chickenloaf is an American short hair cat, a gray tabby. She was adopted from the Pennsylvania SPCA in 1992, and her approximate birth date is January 1992 -- so that makes her six years old. She is picture here with Ernie, the gargoyle.

Chickenloaf was severely malnourished when we adopted her: she was thin, her eyes bulged, her hair was thin, and her skin was dry. She soon plumped up into a shiny, healthy -- and best of all, happy cat.

A year ago, Chickenloaf started losing weight again, and her fur became rough and her skin dry. She was diagnosed as being diabetic. We now give her insulin shots twice a day, and she's very healthy again. Chickenloaf has six brothers and sisters. They can be seen at our website.

How did Chickenloaf get her name? Well, when I was in my early teens, I was kind of imaginative with naming things, and I named a gray cat that we had Chickenloaf just because it popped into my head one day. But my parents changed the cat's name because they thought "Chickenloaf" was too weird. What did they rename the cat? The Woolie Woolie! It was a fine name, but ever since then, I'd always wanted another cat named Chickenloaf. So when I got this little dear from the SPCA, I knew exactly what to name her. Hence, Chickenloaf!
