Norton
was one of a litter of feral kittens who were being fostered
at the San Francisco Pet Hospital. He was the runt of the litter, and
very ill. When I asked if I could adopt him, I was taken aside and
warned that he might not live. As it was, it was touch-and-go for
some time! Poor Norton had a zoo of nasty internal protozoa, his
pancreas wasn't making enough digestive enzymes, and he had
inflammatory bowel disease too. But none of us would give up on him
and he wouldn't give up either, and eventually almost everything
straightened out. While he still has IBD, it's under control.
Today Norton is strong, mischievous, and even a little bit plump --
and, as you can see, very flexible! He lives with two other kitties,
Lionel and Twonky, and one of his favorite activities is playing
chase-me, usually at five in the morning. It's a wonder that my
downstairs neighbors have never complained!
