I
first saw a very thin Ali-Kat chewing chicken bones from a garbage
can overturned by stray dogs, to get the little bit of marrow they
contained. It was so touching as to rouse me from the lounge chair in
which I was resting, recovering from a near-fatal accident. She
eagerly ate the bonny parts of a chicken I had just roasted, and then
hopped into the lounger with me and snuggled up close, purring
loudly. She has been my constant companion ever since, always
friendly and sympathetic to my pains and problems. When I am in pain
or upset, she treats me like her sick kitten. She is distressed when
I leave, and delighted when I return. After being outside, her first
priority on coming inside is getting some petting and ear scratching.
Only then does she head for her food dish. Friends call her my
shadow, from her Grey color and constant following habits. She does
not disturb my work at desk or computer, but waits patiently behind
me until I get up. Then indicates if she wants to go out, be fed or
wants to play (signaled by lying down on my instep).
When Ali-Kat saw the Christmas Tree was endangering her position as
center of attention, she took corrective action. This picture was not
posed in any way!
