slept on top of our old Mac computer for years. It had a nice
square top and plenty of room. When we got the new iMac recently, he
found the top was not flat, but sloped. For the first two days he'd sit
on top just fine, but when he laid down, he'd eventually fall asleep --
slowly sliding down the back and falling right off the desk. He didn't
like this new trick-computer that kept dumping him unceremoniously on
the rug. For two days he tried different positions until he finally came
up with this one where he looped his arm through the carry handle and
was able to sleep without falling off. There were two reasons why this
genius solution didn't fly. First, he covered up most of the computer's
fan which we knew wouldn't bode well for the longevity of the new
computer. Second, as you can see by the other image, that big ol' kitty
butt took up an enormous amount of screen space and was difficult to
work around. After us telling him he couldn't sleep atop the computer
like that, he came up with a new solution. Now he lays his body down
across the top of the screen with tail and legs hanging over the sides.
The screen is visible, the fan is uncovered, and he still gets the
warmth of the computer and the closeness to us while we work. Smart
kitty!
