Camper
is a special kitty because she survived her traumatic kittyhood.
At three months, she witnesses a pit bull attached another kitten. At
about two years old, her best buddy disappeared (the possible product of
a cat hating neighbor when twelve cats disappeared in five months)
Plus, shortly after that and without her bud to protect her, our other
female cat, Smudge, who was very territorial, caused Camper to stay away
from the house. For the next year and a half, I coaxed her in through
the bedroom window to eat and sleep. She would go out the window to tend
to business during the night. And she would always come home when I
called her after I'd gotten home from work. After the year and a half
went by, she stopped coming around and stopped answering my calls. After
three months I gave up. I thought she had become the victim of a baited
cage. Smudge had chased her off for good.
Another whole year and half went by, and one Sunday evening I looked out
the front door and low and behold there she was sitting on the hood of
the car!!. She recognized me, remembered her name, came to me and let me
pick her up! She was healthy looking and looked well fed. She stayed
for a few days before disappearing again. Smudge just would not have her
around again. Ten days later I found her walking in the street looking
rather skinny this time. Needless to say, Smudge was found another home.
Camper was my baby. She has been with me for the past two years now. She
sleeps on me at night. She comes when she's called. She is spoiled
rotten. She knows how to get to you so she can get what she wants (i.e.,
outside, more food or water, etc.) Oh, I almost forgot. She got her name
because when she was two months old she went on a three day camping trip
with us and she was called the "camping kitty". Thus, Camper.
And these past two years she has really been a Happy Camper!
