This
is Hamlet Prince of Randu Silvertail. He was born 10 May 2000.
Although his hair is long, he would be classified as American
Shorthair. His mother is a small long-haired tuxedo, his father a
light orange tabby.
Two things make this animal special. First, the nature of his hair.
From the flesh outward, all hair on his body is pure white. It is only
on the last quarter of an inch or so of each hair that colors other
than white appear. This gives his the appearance of having markings
capable of changing. And, he is only the second cat I've had that
tightly coils his tail when at rest.
Secondly, he enjoys riding in our Mustang convertible, but only if the
top is down. I began training him to ride when he was a month
old. That was in the beginning of summer and by the time winter made
it necessary to put up the top, he had logged over five hundred miles.
The first time in the car with the top up, he roamed all around during
most of the short ride, making noises of obvious complaint over not
being in an open car. His favorite place when riding is on the
dashboard, either over the instrument panel in front of me, or on the
section over the glove box/radio/heater console in front of my wife.
And he always assumes an attitude of absolute majesty. But then, that
is a cat's nature.
