For
about three years, Groucho lived under the front porch of our
house and was a very skinny cat who weighed around four pounds. He was
totally feral and we would see him fighting with raccoons and
patrolling the main streets blocks away from our house. One day, we
saw that Groucho would not come out from under our porch... he usually
ran away when you came within 20 feet. It was obvious he was very
injured, as a huge gash was present on his head. Our vet gave us some
antibiotics that we put in some canned food and carefully placed near
to where he was hiding. He ate the food and recovered from his
injuries and he slowly began to trust us more and more, until one day
we captured him, took him to the vets for shots and the
"operation" as we were sure he had had his share of tomcat
days... five years later he is an incredibly pampered indoor cat...
who gets to go outside with supervision in his escape-proofed back
yard. Groucho is a wonderful cat who loves all other cats including
our young teenager cat Eva, and he is living proof that animals are
truly grateful to kindness and love that people can provide.
