Emmi
is the most grateful cat I've ever seen. Last spring I found Emmi
on the back porch of my sorority house. Pets are not allowed, but I
promised if she was there when I returned from my classes, I would
sneak her inside for the night. Two hours later, she was sitting right
where I left her. That night, I found out she was pregnant. She was a
stray and therefore very skinny and malnourished. I posted ads in the
local papers for a week, but nobody claimed her as theirs. Six days
later, I decided that the following morning I would have to take her
to the Humane Society, where they could take care of her and her
soon-to-be kittens. Well, that very night, Emmi walked up to me and
started crying, I knew something was wrong. My roommate and I grabbed a
box and a blanket, and Emmi went right into the box. Fifteen minutes
later, she went into labor. I knew this was a sign that I had to keep
her. (Her kittens were born on the same day that my childhood cat was
born 16 years ago. And since my childhood cat is nearing death, this
was a strong sign to me that I was meant to find Emmi.) Two hours
later, Emmi had given birth to three beautiful kittens. Well, I
continued to hide the now family of kittens in my room for the
remainder of the semester, not getting caught. Emmi still lives with
me now, and is happy as ever. My friends took her kittens, and they
are reunited every once in a while.
