Cookie
has been with us for three months. She was living in my neighbor's
yard and I had planned to check on her every day while I "house sat." My
husband had been calling her "Sylvester" but couldn't get near her. I
gave her a piece of chicken and that was it - she was on my lap,
drooling. I discovered she was not Sylvester and that she was declawed
and no doubt spayed. My husband said "bring her home." I made him say it
three times just to be sure he finally wanted another cat. The first week I
knocked on doors in the neighborhood and searched for posters because I
didn't want to take someone's lost pet. But no one claimed her, so now
she's our Cookie. And a vet's visit gave her a clean bill of health. She
has brought laughter and joy into the heart of a man that thought he
could never love another cat. Our last cat was about nineteen ( we had her for
ten years) and you tend to remember the last fragile years. This Cookie
has all the spunk and wild-eyed look of discovering everything new in
life whether it's a roll of ribbon, the chipmunk living under the back
stoop upstate, or your foot that is the lump under the covers. Every day
I tell her she's in for the next best twenty years of her life!! And she
really is a tuxedo, she's just hidden those white feet and "v" neck.
Question for anyone out there - she doesn't purr. The vet says she will
eventually, but I thought all cats purr!??!
