I
adopted Bernie after Sept. 11, 2001. I had been looking for a second
cat after the death a few months earlier of our longtime, beloved cat
Stimpy. I found a listing for Bernie which mentioned that Bernie had
been found in a building near the World Trade Center, and his owners had
not come back. I knew I had to have Bernie and take care of him.
Bernie is not a lap cat but he can be very affectionate on his terms.
He follows me around my apartment and loves to run down my apartment
building's hallway when I go out my door to get the newspaper..he loves
his daily stroll. He likes to sleep at the feet of me and my husband in
bed, and he really loves to nap in our laundry basket, as you can see in
the photo. Oddly enough, the only time he likes to sit on my lap is
when he follows me into the bathroom and tries to hop in my lap.
Bernie does like to pick on our older cat Maggie and chase her around
the apartment, but she likes to put him in his place. We love Bernie
and hope he's with us for many, many years, like his older "sister."
