Koal
is a very special little boy. As his daddy was standing in line at
the SPCA turning in a lost dog that had almost been hit on the road, a
woman in front of him in line was turning in Koal, as he had wandered
into her yard and she could not keep him. Once he was put in the cage,
Koal cried and cried, and he just had to adopt him. Unfortunately, a
few months later, Koal darted out the front door while visiting his
daddy's mother's house. Despite posting over 200 color lost posters,
lost ads in the local newspaper, and contacting every animal shelter,
pet store, groomer, and veterinarian in the area, Koal went missing for
weeks. Unfortunately, he was a pro at wriggling out of his collar and
ID tags. Desperate visits to check out 'found' cats in the area turned
up many black cats, but none were Koal. Just when all hope seemed lost,
one month to the day after he ran away, Koal was found!!! Once he
returned, it seemed as though he was a new cat. Once a bit moody,
Koal is now one of the most affectionate cats you will meet.
Koal is a very smart little guy - over Christmas, over 30 miniature
Christmas balls that were hanging on a railing disappeared a few at a
time until every last one was gone. It wasn't until a few weeks later
that they were all found hidden underneath the refrigerator and living
room chair - I guess he didn't like them very much. One of Koal's
favorite pastimes is watching his four firebellied toads. Koal has been
very spoiled since his return, even sporting a gold Italian horn on his
collar - no, we aren't crazy, it just looks cute (plus his daddy says
he's "bling-blingin" - haha)! He also has a Z-shaped kink at the end of
his tail that the vet says probably occurred when his tail was slammed
in a door before he was adopted. The picture above was taken shortly
after Koal's adoption at about three months of age. What a big attitude for
such a little boy.
