This
handsome orange tabby is Jake! This past week Jake celebrated his
4th birthday. He was just a wee kitten in this picture; he now weighs in
at pounds pounds. He is a total lovebug and Momma's Boy; we cannot start
a day without him climbing up high on my shoulder so I can wrap my arms
around him for a hug. He climbs into bed with me every night, curls up
in the crook of my arm, and that's how we sleep! He spends his days on
the window seat his Poppy made for him, watching the birds. He gets a
lot of exercise being chased around the house by his one-year-old
"brother," a frisky Bengal named Spike!
Jake has food and inhalant allergies, and can only eat special food made
of duck and venison. This past January, he had a severe reaction to his
allergy shot and became very ill. We rushed him to the vet late at night
in the middle of a nasty PA ice storm, where he spent a week in an oxygen
cage. Poppy visited him each day in the morning before work, I visited
him in the evening after work. The vet's office called that Saturday
morning to tell me that she did not think he was going to make it
through the weekend; she said that after we left, he was just laying on
his side and moaning. I cried and prayed all day, and on Sunday we got
another call - Jake was much better, eating and sitting up. We went to
visit him and he jumped into my arms. It was one of my happiest moments!
We are so happy to have Jake in our lives, and are most grateful to have
him after his health scare in January. Now, it's strictly special food
for Jake - no sneaking him treats, not even his beloved cheese. We're
glad to report that he is doing great, because we love him very much and
want him around for a very long time!
