This
is our "little" Cassandra. My husband rescued her just before
Thanksgiving in 1996. She was small for her age, covered in grease from
living in an old car engine, and surviving on the leavings from the
grease bin of a local restaurant. It was pretty cold outside at that
time and she would most likely not have survived another week in her
circumstances. My husband brought home our very grateful and hungry
Thanksgiving kitty and she has thrived under our care... she's now just
under 18.5 pounds and on a diet. Her vet says she has about three more
pounds to lose and she will be at optimum weight. Our little piggy
gained all her weight by sneaking meals of her big brother Mel's special
kidney diet food.
Although her brother Mel didn't much appreciate her entrance into his
domain, she eventually won him over and they enjoyed chasing each other,
grooming each other, and cuddled together to sleep when it was cold. We
truly believe that Cassie kept Mel from being bored, entertained him,
and riled him up enough to keep his spirit strong and extend his life
for several years until cancer took him from us last December. Cassie
is a daddy's girl and will only come running if my husband calls. Her
favorite activities are sleeping, playing laser mouse and with her
sparkly cat toy wand, and sleeping on her dad's arm when he sits on the
loveseat. We are grateful that Cassie found us and we hope she is with
us for many, many years.
