As
a kitten, Austin lived with another cat and a dog who didn't much
appreciate his intrusion on their territory. For some reason the three
animals never did get along, and within a year he was looking for a new
home. My husband offered to take him, and so he became a well-loved only cat.
By the time I entered the scene a few years later, Austin was
well-adjusted, if still temperamental. He has lots of love to give, but
it must be on his own terms. I was more used to the company of dogs, and
so I had to learn to the hard way that uninvited advances are sternly
rebuffed. But when he is in the mood for some loving, he demands it, and
he has the most wonderful loud purr.
In our new apartment, he has become obsessed with the balcony - the
closest thing to "outside" this indoor cat has ever experienced. He
cries loudly for the privilege of lying in a patch of sun on the cool
cement and watching alertly whatever movement he can see. Inside, he
prefers to lie on plastic bags or on paper, and the bigger the stack,
the better, as you can see.
We love our big, beautiful feline!
