Spike, the Cat of the Day
Name: Spike
Age: Sixteen months old
Gender: Female
Kind: Domestic Short Hair
Home: River Forest, Illinois, USA

Spike is my beautiful baby girl! Named so for her little black French beret type patch on the top of her head. She came to me from a co-worker who had kittens. She was the last to be taken, certainly not because she isn't beautiful or sweet, just because she's kind of a shy little girl. When he brought her over in a little box she looked up at me as to say "hi mommy, I love you but I'm scared". She spent her first moments with me cuddled in my neck groove. That's still her favorite place, though now it's much more painful at 12+ pounds.

She greets me in the morning (food time!) with a sweet bright eyed stare and gentle little "squeaks". Though that is early, who could be mad at her? When I come home at night, she rushes to the door of my neighbor to meet with her unrequited love "Tom"... even though both are neutered, they're passionate about each other! After the exchange (that takes place with paws batting at each other under my neighbor's main door), she comes back inside for a light dinner, which she enjoys with her adorable little brother, Chompper. He eats her food, but she doesn't mind, that's how patient and kind she is!

I get upset on weeks where I've been out too much, she'll seem sad and grab onto me whenever she can. I'm usually stalked after showering and then pounced on like a big mouse of sorts. I had a party at my house during one of those such weeks and she made sure her presence was known and that I better not ignore her! She's shy, that was very much out of her character. Of course I didn't, who could ignore this beautiful and tender face!
