Henry
is our adoptee from the local animal shelter. We had lost our
precious thirteen-year-old flame point Siamese and were heartbroken. Even
though we have another gorgeous young rescuee, it just wasn't the same
without a Siamese. So I diligently watched the shelter rescue site for a
posting. One afternoon, a beautiful young sealpoint appeared, and by
the time I called the shelter to inquire (within 30 minutes), he was
gone. So I continued to watch, and a few weeks later saw a posting of
this absolutely gorgeous Snowshoe Siamese mix. I called right away and
went to see him, but couldn't take him home at that time because I had
just dashed over from work and had to go back to work and didn't have a
carrier. So I showed up the minute the shelter opened the next morning,
carrier in hand, and promptly fell in love with this guy. He has the
most un-Oriental name of Henry because when I got him home, I opened his
carrier to introduce him to our other kitty, and of course, our resident
kitty growled and hissed at the sight of him. Rather than respond in
kind, he quietly stood and 'talked' like only a Siamese can, as if
explaining that he also needed a home and that he had no intentions of
fighting or being difficult, so could he please stay?! It was so
diplomatic, we decided on Henry (Kissinger).
While it appears he must have formerly been kept confined as he doesn't
seem to know how to play and is awed by having the run of a large house,
he is slowly coming around and doesn't hide in the closet or under the
bed constantly. He craves affection and has even taken some tentative
'playful' swats at the toys he shares with our other kitty. He's a
special little guy, and we feel fortunate to have him.
