This
is Chief, our bi-color Scottish Fold. A relatively rare breed in
this country (New Zealand - home of Lord of the Rings). He is a typical
Fold in every way, including the breeds well known habit of adopting
some very odd positions! His favorite sleeping position is flat out on
his back. He also does the 'meer cat' and 'buddha'. Chief is very
special to us and is very different from any other cat we've owned. He
is very quiet in both voice and nature. He talks only when necessary and
even if you accidentally step on his tail he doesn't even complain! He
is slow to warm to visitors but when he likes someone he'll show it by
flopping down in the middle of the room and rolling onto his back. It
took a while for us to learn to read his moods, it's surprising how much
of a cats mood is shown through their ears! Now we've had him a while it
is easy to tell happy from sad and grumpy from hungry. Chief makes up
for his lack of voice with an immensely deep, loud rumbling purr. He is
an indoor-only cat and his low-maintenance, sweet nature and lack of
jumping and climbing skills makes him well-suited to living indoors with
us. Luckily he has immaculate litter-tray habits! We are thinking of
getting Chief a new friend soon, another Fold, that should be interesting!
