Sumiko
means (among other things) "dear little painted one" in Japanese.
I got her at possibly five weeks old from someone who said that someone
else in their building found this kitten in an alley, at least a week
before she came to us. During that time she was offered only adult dry
food, evaporated milk and the attentions of two very bratty children.
Consequently when I got her, she was nearly starved to death. She spent
her first weekend in intensive care; but a week later, she had doubled
in weight, grown remarkably, and is turning into quite a spitfire!
Sumiko is very easygoing. She is totally unfazed by very large dogs and
will let anyone caress her, but she will dive under the bed, hissing and
spitting, if she hears children playing in the street outside. She gets
along well with our other cats and they, in turn, tolerate her. There
are going to be some fun evenings when she's old enough to play with
Tony and Pat!
We love her dearly and look forward to having her grace our home for
many, many years to come.
