Monte
(his whole name is Montecore) is a funny, lovable little guy
with entertaining quirks. Being a smooth operator, at nap time he always
finds a way to nudge his way in-between the other cats so he's got a
pillow and a footwarmer.
I love it when he hangs out by the sink while I do the dishes, snoozes
near me while I'm on the computer or stands guard on the toilet seat
while I take a shower. The best, is when he puts his paw on my chin and
stares into my eyes.
Monte has a very sensitive sense of smell. When he doesn't like
something he becomes afraid of it. So, we have a cat who is afraid of
tea bags and bananas! One night I held out an Earl Grey tea bag for him
to check out. I expected him to bat at it, like most cats would.
Instead he sniffed it, crinkled his nose, squinted his eyes, reared up
like a pony and trotted away. I couldn't resist seeing what he'd think
of English Breakfast tea... He did the same routine but bolted off in
terror and almost wouldn't come back in the kitchen.
Monte loves cat treats more than he loves us, sometimes. He jumps
through hoops for treats. He jumps up in the air for treats. He gives
kisses for treats. He belligerently knocks the container down from high
places as a subtle hint for more treats.
We love his high, musical sounding voice. Everyone says I'm crazy, but
I wish he'd talk more. The turkey gobbler sound he makes, as he zooms
through the house on his playful rampages, is my favorite. His latest
vocalization is a battle cry (made when Oscar tries to join in and play
with Monte's favorite toy).
He is a special guy!
