About Us
Dottie, the Cat of the Day
Name: Dottie
Age: Nine years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Maine Coon
Home: Palm City, Florida, USA

We didn't adopt Dottie, she adopted us. A neighbor adopted her from a shelter when she was less than one year old and she wouldn't stay at the lady's house. Instead, she insisted that we were her family. So, our neighbor asked us if we would consider adopt her since she wanted to live with us.

In addition to "adopting" our family, Dottie is a very special cat because more than three years ago, we adopted a newborn kitten who had lost his mother. Although Dottie has never had kittens herself, she "raised" our Baby George on instinct. George is now an adult cat, but Dottie still needs to remind him who is the "queen" and put him in his place sometimes, all the while providing love to him and the entire family.

Although she has a very "regal" air about her, she is a very affectionate cat. If she were a person she could be considered quite a "snob" sometimes. Her mornings are spent on our patio, where she searches in hopes for a lizard or frog to chase up the screen, while she watches the squirrels in the trees. She spends her days keeping an eye on everything going on inside the house in between "cat naps". This includes watching what our other cat, George is doing, and when she feels he's not causing any trouble, she'll even nap with him.

She loves to be around people, especially our eleven-year-old daughter, who she really belongs to. Dottie is her baby. Dottie sleeps with her every night until our daughter falls asleep, at which time she and her "baby George" play hide & seek throughout the house - and keep me awake!

Dottie doesn't have any real tricks, but she has such a mind of her own and has so much personality. She's gone from living outside when we adopted her to being the queen of the castle. She is very much enjoyed by the entire family.
