My
cat, Spice, is a new addition to my home. Last summer I went to the
local "no kill" Animal Shelter in Buffalo, MN, to look at the cats.
They had a special that day for people of my age to get a cat for half
price. Spice actually chose me while I was visiting in the cat area.
And after I accepted her invitation, I was allowed to take her in a room
to get to know her. She played, jumped into the window to look outside,
and then ended up curling up in my lap and falling asleep. It was just
right. After calling two references, the shelter allowed me take her
home. They called a week later to see how she was doing. Her former
owners had told the shelter that their dog didn't get along with her,
and they gave her up (over a dog mind you!). Their loss; my joy.
After a vet visit with both of my cats, I bought her home to another cat
and I spent three solid days trying to smooth over this disruption with
my cat, Sugar, who was ten years old and kind of cranky. The end of the
third day, Spice finally got physically close to Sugar to lick her, and
that made her a fast friend. Spice does have a health problem that I
have been able to manage so far... she has chronic constipation. It made
me wonder if that is why the people actually gave her up.
Spice is a small gray cat. She is very active, and wants to play. She
likes toys, but likes to sit at my chair looking at me, as if I can read
her mind, and chose what game she wants to play. She is cuddly, and
likes to be petted and hugged. Both Sugar and I believe she is a
spoiled brat. I never have seen a cat that will look outside all the
time. My living room window has nose prints all over it from her
looking outside. I put up a hummingbird feeder so she can watch them.
The back windows have huge lilac bushes next to the house, so she really
enjoys watching the creatures bouncing around in them. She has gotten
outside twice, but thank goodness, she stopped because she didn't know
where to run. I don't like cats being outside, it can be dangerous out
there.
My cat is the cat of my heart and life. The Spice of my life.
