My
cat/baby's name is Jade; because of her pretty green eyes. A year and
a half ago my family went to the shelter here on post to adopt a kitty.
All the cats and kittens were meowing, purring and trying to get our
attention. All except one. That one kitty was hiding in the back of the
kennel, and looking very sad and scared. The staff told us she had been
dropped off by her previous owner with no explanation given and that she
was very frightened and depressed. They doubted anyone would adopt
her. Well, we just had to save her.
For the first week we never saw her, she only came out from under my
daughters bed in the middle of the night to eat and use the litter box.
Then the second week she began to come out during the day, but ran
everywhere to hide. Finally after two weeks, she sat next to me and let me
pet her. Suddenly she became attached to me. If I'm in the bathroom,
she's with me; if I get on the computer, she's sleeping half on top of
the mouse pad, paw on top of my hand; watching tv, she's sleeping next
to me, etc. Where I go, she goes. When it's time for bed, she runs
down the hall, jumps on the bed, sits and watches me get ready with a
look like, "come on, I'm tired, hurry up mom!"
One funny thing is she doesn't meow. The only time she makes a noise is
when she finds one of the dozen or so furry mouse toys. She makes a
funny high-pitched murrrrr sounds as she whacks them around. After some
time, she decides that she's "killed" her mouse and will present me with
her kill. She also is good at head-butting you to get your attention.
Which means she wants treats, petting and all around loving. I love my
Jade, she brought life into our family and she makes me smile all day,
every day.
