Our
pet female cat Mimi is an American Shorthair Silver Tabby. She is
nearly three years old. She is shy but very lively. She only eats
manufactured cat food despite efforts to feed her fresh and from tins as
well. She is obsessed with water, and keeps making us go up to the
bathroom to put the tap on a trickle so she can sit in the basin with
her head in the trickle. She sits with her tail in the running water as
well, looking up foolishly at us if we come by. She's a fantastic
hunter. We live in the south of Spain which has a sub-tropical climate
with long summers. She spends a lot of time in summer hunting bugs of
all sorts. She jumps into the air, twisting her body and swatting her
paws at the bug like a kung-fu fighter. She also slaughters about 50
lizards a year which distresses us as we like the lizards. She kills
maybe three or four birds a season as well, and proudly presents them to
us, usually by sneaking them in when we are out at work and depositing
the bloody mess onto fresh clothing in a half-open cupboard. She
prefers to use white clothing as it all shows up so much better. She's
very strong but avoids trouble by keeping away from other cats whom she
detests. She likes people but takes her time before she approaches
herself close enough.
We found her when she was only four weeks old or less, on a hot summer
day by a railway station. She was a scrap less than half the size of my
hand, and almost unable to move from hunger and thirst, crawling along
the side of a hedge for shade. The first night she crawled under my
wife's hair, and slept like that every night for a week. By then she
felt better, stronger, and more confident, and the rest is history!
