James
was ten-months-old when I adopted him. A friend of mine found him in
an empty apartment. His previous owner just left him there when he moved
out, with no food, no access to water, nothing! Apparently, he was left
there for two weeks before the neighbour called the landlord (my friend)
saying that she could hear a cat meowing very loud in the other apartment.
My friend brought ham and rescued the poor thing. Being the Mother Teresa
of animals, she brought him home but couldn't keep him; she had already
adopted a rescued dog, birds and fish. She knew I wanted to adopt a cat
some day, so she called me. I fell in love with this superb cat who came
directly to me to be petted. How could he still trust humans after what
they did to him? I'll never know, but he did.
So I brought him home. He had to be "reeducated" about food, because he
was always eating, as if he wanted to eat as much as he could, not knowing
if there would be a next meal. But now he's a healthy big boy of eighteen
pounds. Not fat, just a big buddy. He is easily the best roommate I've
ever had! He's easy going, affectionate, funny. I love our conversations.
Yes, he answers my questions! Sometimes we have arguments, though,
especially when it's pedicure time. But we get along very well and we love
each other.
Sometimes, when we have a nap together, I can't refrain from thinking how
cruel his previous owner was to leave him like that. Sometimes I hate
humans. James is a lovely boy who will never be mistreated or abandoned again!
