We
needed a companion for our cat Neko. So we trolled the internet using
PetFinder.com, a wonderful
resource networked with humane societies all over the country for
rescuing domestic and farm animals. We saw Rilo and knew she was the one
for us.
Active and bright, anything in the house is fair game for play, but
Rilo's favorite toy is Neko himself. She follows him around everywhere
and loves to goad him into a game of tumble or chase. With utter
disregard for life and limb, Rilo will hang on the side of a cat tree to
bat at toys, jump to high places, launch herself across broad distances
to attack moving targets, and hunt down all sorts of things she
shouldn't have. As she's gotten older, she has a developed a taste for
licking plastic bags. Some cats come running to the sound of a can
opener, our cat comes running to the sound of crinkling plastic bags.
Rilo is extremely personable and loves to be touching us in some way.
She sits in our lap when we watch TV, roosts on our shoulder when we're
on the computer, and taps us with her paw when she wants us to play. She
insists upon sleeping with us at night, in the bed, tucked under the
covers with her head on our arm and her cold feet on us. If she gets too
warm, she will sleep on our heads like one of those big Russian fur
caps.
Amazingly, Neko displays no jealousy toward Rilo. On the other hand,
Rilo is a bit possessive of her people and wants to be in on the action
if Neko is getting any one-on-one attention. She may be little, but
she's big on personality.
