Squeek
crawled into our yard one spring morning, starved nearly to death. We
didn't need another cat, but started to feed her regularly anyway. Though she
was as tiny as a three-month-old kitten, she turned out to be old enough to get
pregnant and soon presented us with four kittens. We found good homes for her
family, but she never grew larger than six pounds, though her personality was
enormous.
She woke my husband and me every morning purring loudly and loved being held,
preferably for hours at a stretch. She resented my time on the computer and
would climb up behind me, box my ears with her paws and pull my hair with her
teeth. This usually got her the attention she wanted.
She loved spending time outdoors, hunting chipmunks and frogs, but never left
the yard. She enjoyed playtime and was outstanding at chair hockey, crouching
down behind the arm of a wing chair, batting a fluffy ball with first the
left, then the right paw, each time that I tossed it to her.
In a lifetime of cats, she was the perfect one. We were heartbroken when she
developed kidney failure after only eight years and passed away. We will
always remember Squeek.
