Gigio
is a sixteen-month-old Tabby adopted from an animal hospital In
Nashville, TN where I lived at the time. Two of these pictures were taken
on his second day home, at age three months. We now live in Wheeling, Illinois.
Gigio is extremely sweet and purrs incessantly. When he was picked up off
the streets he had a terrible ear mite infection and the vets at the
hospital thought he was not going to make it. Gigio has a big "sister,"
namely my older (Four year old) cat named Penny. Penny was also adopted.
She came from a shelter in Rio de Janeiro Brazil which is my home town.
Despite all the reading and preparation we did Penny did not accept Gigio
and for weeks would not let him come close.
Gigio does not seem to mind. He sleeps in my bed every night, curled
around my foot.
Finally, at age seven months Gigio's milk canine tooth did not fall and
for a few weeks he had two full right canine teeth. Fortunately the milk
tooth eventually fell and no surgery was needed.
Gigio's favorite pastime is ambushing Penny or chasing long pieces of
string I pull around the house when I have the time.
Gigio is short for Giovanni which is John in Italian. So Johnny would be
the closest English translation to his name.
