This
is Obi-Wan, usually referred to as Obi. Obi is the kind of guy that
you just can't think of as being a cat. He is a very happy, extremely
affectionate and loving being. No matter where we go throughout the
house he comes wandering with us to investigate what we are doing and to
be a part of it all. One of his favorite times is when we are playing
pool where he insists on being held in our arms and we have to pass him
back and forth frequently when it is the other one's turn. He is also
very vocal, but more like speech then just meowing. He seems to
understand the ritual of saying 'Hello' to one another, so whenever we
have guests he wanders up, looks them in the face, and lets out a big
meow that certainly sounds like 'hello'. Although he turns and high-
tails it out of the room when we pull out the dust mop, he loves to be
vacuumed. A very unusual little guy!
When he was a year and a half old we bought him a fishing rod cat toy.
It is still his favorite thing to play with, as you can see in the
video. We have never thought of a cat as displaying proprietary rights
to an object, but Obi lies on the arm of the couch, where the fishing
rod is wedged into the cushion, and lays his paw on it as if to say
'this is mine and I love it'. When he is sitting in one of our laps and
he looks up into our face and just stares, we can't help but feel the
love coming from this wonderful guy.
One of our favorite things is the little movie of him with his fishing
rod. He is so funny about that. It has been almost five years and he
still considers it his favorite thing in the world, after us, of course.
I had to repair it the other day after a five year old played with it and
broke the reel. A little drilling and a steel bolt made it better than
new!
Obi is very unique. Everyone who has met him has announced that he is
the greatest cat that they have ever met. Everyone. Even cat
non-lover!
