We
adopted Rio in 2008 from a local pet shelter because our beautiful
Ragdoll, Miko, escaped from our home and was never returned to us even though
she had a microchip. She had also been adopted from a pet shelter.
When Rio first came to live with us he was so afraid we didn't even see him
for six weeks - he hid in our laundry room and would only come out at night
to eat. It was pretty tempting for a while to take him back to the shelter
and get another more friendly cat. But we hung in there with him and very
slowly and very gradually he integrated into our family. After a little over
two years, he has become the dearest most lovable cat we have ever had. He
really loves his family, has learned to ask for his favorite food, asks to go
outside and communicates frequently how much he loves us - all that without
much of a voice. He has a tiny little meow, but boy can he make it work to
his advantage! It gets him everything he wants! Rio is not a lap cat - but he
likes to sit near us or on top of the computer desk while we are working. Rio
has earned his place as a very important member of our our family and we love
him very much.
The pictures show how beautiful he is, but he hates to have his picture taken
and walks away in the opposite direction as soon as he sees me coming with
the camera!
