Around
midnight on an early December night I heard a crying sound from a
nearby yard. When I searched around I found a newborn kitten moving around in
the leaves, wet and freezing... his mother had abandoned him after giving
birth. We brought him in and got him warm, and so begins the story.
It's now almost five weeks later, and the little fella is doing wonderfully!
He is walking, trying to run (he's still a little clumsy), and loves to roll
on his back and play with our fingers or a small stuffed toy we have for him.
My favorite thing in the world is when he crawls up and curls against my neck
to fall asleep, usually purring the whole time!
His name, Ohana (which is Hawaiian for "family"), came from watching the
Disney movie "Lilo and Stitch". During the movie a little girl says "Ohana
means family, and that means no one is forgotten and no one is left behind."
This little kitten may have been left behind by his mother, but we brought
him into our home and he will always be a part of our family.
