When
I walked into the cat room at the SPCA in Las Vegas there were a variety
of kittens but Peanut and her little sister KiKi were the only two that came
to the front of their cage to greet me. I adopted both of them, even though
KiKi had some health issues, they both tugged at my heart strings. Sadly,
KiKi died of distemper two weeks later but I was happy to know she had spent
the last weeks of her life in a home where she was loved. Peanut has been a
ray of sunshine since the day she arrived. She has a purr that sounds like an
engine and a personality bigger than life. My parents believed that you
should never had one animal at a time so shortly after KiKi went to kitty
heaven I adopted her brother Chester, who she spent 16.5 years sharing her
life and space with.
She has been a constant through many moves of houses and
countries, the death of my parents and just day-to-day life. I know when I
get home my little Sweetie Pea will be waiting to give me unconditional love
and loyalty. Through the years she has been so tolerant in the changes in our
lives. I moved into a house with four dogs and she took it in stride. I
inherited my parents' crazy Yorkie and she has been incredibly patient and has
shown great restraint in not beating up the little creature that is a quarter
of her size!! While my father was terminally ill she sat with him and
comforted and soothed him; he absolutely adored her. In her golden years she
has taken to sleeping wrapped around my head; very comfy for her, not so comfy
for me but the rumble of her purr is very soothing and more often than not
puts me to sleep. Just last month she converted a not so cat liking family
into a family that is now considering a cat as a pet ... but they want one
just like her!! There is only one Peanut and I will be forever grateful that
she has been a constant part of my life and my family.
