years ago we had to put our nineteen-year-old cat down (she was deaf and very
arthritic and in a lot of pain). Through my tears and grief I told the vet
(who at the time was also the animal shelter) I have always wanted a long
haired black and white tuxedo cat. His wife said to wait just a minute and
upon returning had this little 8-week-old very scared, beautiful bundle of joy
in her arms. I said I wanted him, but needed a couple of days. She told me
he had not been socialized and she would work with him, we should take two
weeks to get over the loss and come back and she would have him ready for us.
Well, we lasted two days and couldn't stand the loneliness anymore and I went
and got him. He was still very scared but only took just a day or two to
become part of our family.
He is the biggest baby I have ever seen. He is so very affectionate and
follows us around everywhere. He has all the characteristics of a Maine Coon
cat (tufted ears, hairy paws, a very weak voice and he is a big cat (about 20
pounds). He enjoys laying around the house, preferably within our sight and
on his back with all four feet in the air. And he "hides" behind our
curtains, though only his head is behind the curtains, his whole body sticks out.
Guess he thinks if he can't see us, we can't him. I must tell you how
furocious this big black cat is - whenever anyone comes to the house, including
one of us, he will growl then run and hide. I just think that is so funny as
such a big cat, he is so protective.
He loves furry mice, especially their tails - once he chews them off, though,
the mouse is no good anymore. He also likes chasing his tail, which sounds
like the house is falling apart. But one of his favorite things is a hotel
bar of soap, the plastic wrap crinkles and it is the best toy in the house.
Buster has also always loved water, he gets a drink out of the sink and has to
test the water is his bowl with his paw first, making such a mess all over the
kitchen floor. He loves my husband, every time he sits down Buster will
always be there for a little petting and attention. He does have a house
mate, Bozo (who is his opposite, skinny and very vocal) who is his best friend
when we aren't around. They are the loves of our lives.
