This
is K'Ehleyr, who was the second feral kitten that we found in our
rural area. She was a bag of bones when we found her the summer of
2004, and her whiskers were curling from lack of nutrition. I estimated
she was about five weeks old.
K'Ehleyr is now six years old and a happy, healthy house cat. She sleeps
in our bed on my hubby's legs at night along with a couple of our Irish
Setters. About twice a night, she crawls under the covers with me to
snuggle, and then she returns to hubby's legs. When my hubby is
traveling, I have to use stuffed hubby legs for her to sleep on. When
we found her, she was so weak that I carried her around in my shirt and
even fed her there. So now, she loves to crawl inside your shirt just
to cuddle and purr. And her morning isn't complete without being
carried downstairs by my hubby. She gets up with me when I let the dogs
out, eats her breakfast and then runs upstairs to make sure she gets her
carry down. Her morning is then complete.
She's a little girl at about 8.5 pounds. Her sister feral kitten,
Jadzia, who we found a year earlier is a big girl at eleven pounds. In December of
2009, we adopted an eight-week-old kitten from a local shelter, and K'Ehleyr
was not amused. She was the small, cute one, and here was this little
interloper. But he has since grown bigger than Jadzia, and K'Ehleyr has
forgiven him his previous cuteness.
K'Ehleyr along with our two other cats and our dogs are fed a raw meat and
bone diet. My vet is quite comfortable with this diet since our cats
and dogs are exceptionally healthy. And their teeth are sparkling
clean. K'Ehleyr's name comes from Star Trek, the Next Generation.
K'Ehleyr was the beautiful half Klingon woman who was the mother of
Worf's son, Alexander. I try to give my cats and dogs names that
reflect both their personalities and their beauty.
