Sasha
came into our lives thirteen years ago via the SPCA. We were told she was
part Russian Blue which explained her thick gray coat and her huge, gorgeous
eyes. Quickly we learned that she loved to drink with her paw as well as make
"soup" by flipping her food into the water, waiting patiently for a specific
period of time, then fishing the moistened tidbit out with her paw when she
determined it was "done."
She might have been the only cat that has walked the earth that had
absolutely no interest in going outside. Where most indoor cats scheme to go
through an open door, Sasha would scheme to be as far from an open door as
possible.
Her other hobbies included chasing rolled-up balls of her own fur (dubbed
"mini-me's") around the room, playing the banister like a harp, and "reading"
magazines (especially Newsweek and The Economist). She earned many nicknames
over the years, the latest one being "Smoke Monster" because she was as gray
like the Smoke Monster in the television series LOST, she would regularly
join us to watch LOST, and she spent many hours a day under our (kitchen)
island counter-top overhang.
We felt honored when she would meander into the family room for a visit with
us, as she would arrive with an air of majesty.
Sadly, she succumbed to her diabetes, for which she needed insulin shots
twice a day for the past six years, on July 4th 2010. Sasha was as cute and
exotic inside as she was outside, and she is dearly missed by her family,
friends and fans.
