couple of years ago I went to the rescue clinic to have one of our dogs
checked up. I saw this super cute kitten right at the front of the cage
full of kittens, meowing and climbing the bars to get closer. She had a
perfectly straight, long tail, which is a bit of a rare thing with Bali
cats. And yes, she is a Bali cat - not the "Balinese" breed - she's a local Bali cat.
Looking at her, I decided I wanted a kitten and could easily keep one. I
decided to try and look particularly at the quiet kittens being
overshadowed by the more boisterous ones. You know how you're meant to go
for the runt, or the suppressed one? There was a little black kitten with
a funny bent tail that wasn't confident and stayed at the back of the
group, so I picked him up but just didn't click with him. The whole time
the biggest one, the one that climbed the bars, having succeeded in
reaching the top of the cage and falling back down, stared and me and
meowed frantically.
I then realized that she had been the reason I was going to get a kitten,
so how wrong was it of me to not get her? That day I took Tui home with
our Pomeranian, Honey. They've been best friends ever since, and now that
Honey has had a puppy, named Denny Crane, Tui is friends with him too.
She's grown into a gorgeous cat, but she has the uncontrollable urge to
lick everyone. Possibly she picked this habit up from the dogs? I love her
so much, and one of her favorite things is hanging out on my shoulders
while I move around the kitchen. She's a special cat for certain!
