Montgomery,
Monty for short, was our only non-shelter cat. We got him from
a breeder, but since he did not have papers he was not "Show" quality. We
didn't care as we only wanted this cute kitten to join our family. He
lived with us for 14 1/2 years as younger brother to some and older
brother to many more. His first Christmas he got soaking wet from our
spraying him with water to keep him from climbing the fifteen foot Christmas
tree. He never climbed one again. But about three years ago arthritis started
slowing him down, although he refused to use the stairs we got him to get
on the bed. His favorite place lately was next to his Dad on the couch
watching TV and sharing whatever was being eaten. He came running for
that, regardless of his arthritis. He especially loved his first little
sister except when she wouldn't stop meowing while we drove from Colorado
to Nevada. Then, he cuffed her and told her to shut up!
He left us several days ago when he stopped breathing after having his
teeth cleaned. His friend, the vet, found a cancerous growth on the base
of his tongue that had already metastasized, I believe he wanted to spare
us any more pain. He was a wonderful friend and we all miss him. Making
the bed will never be the same without him.
