I
would like to introduce Lola Meredith Maj. About three months ago, I
moved into a new apartment with a new roommate in Toronto. Things weren't
going so well and I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. It got to
the point where I nearly dropped out of school. The only thing that got me
through at that time was waking up to Lola every morning. I would open my
eyes to find Lola patiently staring at me waiting for some attention. When
she noticed I was awake, she would begin to purr and head bonk. She brought
a warmth and unconditional love that helped me to look forward to every
day. Coming home from school each day with Lola greeting me at the door
brightened up my life.
When I was four years old I wished for a kitten on every single penny I
found. When I was five my wish came true with my first kitten/love named
Angel. About three years ago in December, the passing of Angel due to kidney
failure devastated me. Months passed and I mourned. The following summer my
neighbor approached my family with concerns about a kitten that had been
hiding under her deck - she couldn't bring the kitten inside because she
has two dogs of her own. My mom decided to keep her safe inside our home
until we found her owners. When I spent the first night with her, it was
love all over again. Lola made herself content on my legs as I relaxed in
bed (the photo of her sleeping on a red blanket), which is a trait she
continues to possess. After an unsuccessful search for her original owners,
Lola was mine to keep although she acts more as if I am her pet human.
Lola has a bold and loud personality, in which my mom refers to as "bad
a**" but I prefer "princess". She isn't afraid to voice her opinion even if
she has nothing nice to say. Her attitude problem is the one thing I love
about her the most. When annoyed by our other cats Lola won't hesitate to
give a slap to put them in their place. Despite her low tolerance level,
she would never claw at a person. She may express her annoyance with an
irritated meow, and if still annoyed, she chooses to run away. Another
thing I love about Lola is her curiosity (a.k.a. nosiness). She always has
to be involved in whatever activity I'm doing. When I type an essay, Lola
helps by sitting on my hands when I type. When I make my bed, Lola will
fight with the blankets to them whose boss of the bed.
Lola's attitude problem disappears when bonding with me. Instead, she turns
into a little cuddly teddy bear. When I lay down, she will lay either next
to me or right on my legs - probably more of an "I claim ownership over
this person" thing. Lola's favorite game to play is hide'n'seek and fetch.
She especially enjoys chasing a tossed mouse and watching me fetch it. Lola
will usually run back to me when I clap my hands but without the mouse in mouth.
To sum up Lola Meredith Maj, she is a ball of energy that can turn any
frown upside down with her quirky and humorous antics and warm any heart
with a bedtime cuddle. For her sweet and wise demeanor, she deserves to be honored.
