Dixie
is our daughter's first pet and she truly loves and adores Dixie.
Dixie has very striking markings, that is the first thing everyone comments
on when they meet her. Dixie spends every night watching over our daughter
while she sleeps. And while Dixie may get tired of being chased around the
house by a very active seven-year-old, they really are best friends.
After several years of asking (begging, really) my husband and I decided it
was time for our seven-year-old, Parker, to adopt her first kitten. A
family nearby had a litter of kittens and we took Parker to "see how cute
the kittens were" and then told her she got to pick one out and bring her
home. Oh, the joy on her face! She quickly picked the kitten that has the
most unusual markings and promptly named her Dixie Alli Clem. She came to
live with us in July and was about eight weeks old when we brought her home.
Our daughter and Dixie quickly bonded and became best friends. Dixie loved
being pushed around in the baby doll stroller. She also loved crawling into
the dollhouse we have, although she would knock over all the furniture
inside. She is less amused about being dressed in baby doll clothes,
however. It is not always easy for a cat to have a seven-year-old as a pet owner.
Our favorite part about Dixie is her devotion to our daughter. Every night
she sleeps on her bed to watch over her. She peeks out of the window to
watch us leave each day for work/school and is always waiting at the door
for us when we return. While my daughter is playing Dixie can be found
perched on a nearby pillow to watch her then too. Today our daughter was
upset about only making a 96 on a test and was crying. She ran to Dixie and
swooped her up in a big hug and said "You always make me feel better." Life
doesn't get sweeter than that, does it?
