This
is our beloved Copernicus. He was our Cat of the Day every day since he
came into our home in August, 2001. He and his two brothers, Tycho and
Grimaldi, were born under our deck and were about six weeks old when we adopted
them. Initially Copernicus was the smallest of the three. He fit in my hand
and we nicknamed him "The Wee One". That nickname stuck even as Copernicus
grew into a big, beautiful 20+ pound kitty. He was a gentle giant with the
sweetest personality and a wonderful deep, rumbling purr. He was also the
best at head-butting.
He was always the first to greet us at the door each day when we returned
home from work. He was also our little helper with all sorts of household
tasks, from making the bed to unpacking groceries. He especially loved to
help us unpack boxes of Christmas decorations and supervise putting up the
Christmas tree and when that was done, he loved to nap beneath the tree.
He was an indoor kitty, but loved to accompany us for a stroll around our
yard on his harness and lead. His favorite snacks included tuna, salmon,
shrimp, whipped cream and crunchy raw green string beans! He also loved
catnip and cat grass and watching TV! He had his own kitty DVDs and often in
the morning, after his breakfast, he would sit down in front of the TV and
wait for us to start the DVD. He even had favorite portions of the DVD
"memorized". He would approach the TV screen several seconds before those
portions so he could be ready to bat at the bird or chipmunk on the screen.
Sadly, in October 2013, we noticed our Wee One didn't seem to be feeling
well. Subsequent tests and exploratory surgery found that he had a very
severe case of pancreatitis. While his condition was serious, we were hopeful
he might recover. Unfortunately though, he developed respiratory problems due
to fluid buildup in and around his lungs and he went to the Rainbow Bridge
just before Thanksgiving. Our hearts are broken over losing him and we miss
him so much. He left a big empty spot in our hearts and our home. We were
truly blessed to have Copernicus in our family for twelve years. We love you
Copernicus - forever and always.
