Tulip, the Cat of the Day
Name: Tulip
Age: Deceased, 17.5 years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Tuxedo Cat
Home: Petaluma, California, USA

Tulip was an angel cat if ever there was one. I found her at the local animal shelter when she was a few months old and I could tell right away the she was a sweet, mischievous little angel. As she grew up, her other beautiful qualities of patience, loyalty and kind companionship emerged and she became both my child and dearest companion. I had the pleasure of loving her and looking after her for seventeen years. Well she did a lot of looking after me too. I could always count on Tulip to fill my days with love, joy, and meaning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our quality lap time, but otherwise she was an independent girl who treasured her alone time. She was a kitty of few meows but anytime she did speak, it meant something specific, usually "stop what you are doing please and come play with me!" She taught me that a tail is somewhat similar to hands. It is used for touch and to communicate, like humans talk and touch with our hands. She would caress me with her tail as we sat together. That was something I really loved.

Tulip was an adorable kitten and a very beautiful cat. With her tuxedo markings, I thought that she appeared to wear a fluffy white blouse, two fluffy white mittens and two fluffy white lace-up boots since her white fur extended up her shins a bit like little boots. Quite the princess. Her whiskers were very long and luxurious. Her tail was long, fluffy and very pretty. One thing about her appearance struck me. When stretching, she appeared very long in body and I thought that she resembled a very fetching kitty dragon soaring through the heavens and so I gave her a nickname of Dragonette!

Her loves were, in this order; Momma's lap, sunshine, playing with me with one of her toys, sleeping, kitty treats, and last of all eating. She was never a big eater and didn't like people food at all with a few odd exceptions: cashews and wafer oreo-style cookies which I would give her tiny bits of every now and then.

I looked forward to sharing her elder years with her too, to be at her side until the end, so I am very grateful to have fulfilled this much- cherished dream. The greatest gift of all, for me, was the love of my sweet kitty.
