George, the Cat of the Day
Name: George
Age: Three years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Tuxedo
Home: Ontario, Canada

George was one of a 90-cat rescue in Southern Ontario that was conducted by the humane societies in two bordering towns. He had infections and was pretty ill, but a month in the hospital got him back to health and he was ready for adoption. The vet estimated hint to be a about two years old (based on his teeth) and so we went with that and he just celebrated this third birthday. Many of the cats rescued with George, sadly did not make it.

My widowed Dad originally adopted George, but I've been in his life since day one and the transition was smooth when Dad decided to move to one of my sister's three hours away (allergies in their house so George couldn't go.) The day we adopted him, we were placed in a room with several cats. Some shied away, some were all over us, but George quickly showed us HE was ours when he somehow curled himself across the back of dad's neck, purring. When another cat came to me, George would come over to me, nudge the other cat gently out of the way, and come on my lap. So he chose us.

Thinking of George, Dad stayed here for a month first, so since he was here, George quickly considered it home and established him as boss over my dog. My dad eventually moved, but by then things were settled. He visits George frequently and even calls him on the phone haha. I post pics of him so my sister can show him.

George's most distinctive feature is that he has one green eye and one blue eye. I did some research and learned that this, often called "odd-eyes" is found very rarely, and then usually only in pure white cats. I've never found another cat with odd eyes, unless they were pure white (several) and one that was solid black. As a Tuxie, the odds of him having odd eyes are astronomical.

He has a very strong personality. If he wants your attention, he silently comes up and headbutts your hand so hard you drop whatever's in it. Luckily I had the accidental insurance and have replaced two tablets that shattered due to a head-butting by George straight onto hardwood floors. He also doesn't believe anything belongs on tables, nightstands or countertops except him and I even caught him (photographically) in the act of sending something to the floor. Walking around first thing is always an adventure in stumbling over something. When I'm lying down with the dog and George comes up, he head butts me for a few scratches and then curls up and sleeps on top of the dog!

So, to conclude, George is a cat who defies the odds. He was born into a terrible situation and suffered for it, but was rescued and survived when many of the other cats did not. And he surely won the genetic lottery with unknown odds on being a Tuxie whose face is pink, blue, green, black and white.
