Bozo, the Cat of the Day
Name: Bozo
Age: Deceased, Thirteen years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Orange Tabby
Home: Indiana, USA

Bozo came to live with us thirteen years ago right after the new year. Two weeks prior we had lost our nineteen-year-old cat and adopted Buster. I knew I wanted two cats and wanted them to grow up together. So our search for another kitten began. It was still considered the holidays and the humane shelters wouldn't adopt over the holidays. We search everywhere within a 60-mile radius of our house and could find nothing. I kept asking around and found that there was a metal business in our town that might have a couple of kittens in the shop they wanted to get rid of. We had to wait until they opened after the New Year break, so that Monday at 10:00 a.m., I went to find the place and took my twelve-year-old son along. We found it and the office girls carried two kittens out in a box. An older kitten jumped out of the box right away and the girls seemed to want us to take that one. But my son looked in the box and found this teeny tiny yellow kitten and that was the end. He grabbed hold of him and I knew he was coming home with us.

We stopped by the vet first to get the kitten checked out. They gave me a looked as if to say, "You crazy lady," and proceeded to look at this poor little kitten. They told me he couldn't have been much more than four weeks old, and he was too small for any shots. They gave him a ear mite treatment and sent me home with a bottle of shampoo and told me to clean him up (he was very dusty and smelled of oil), good luck and bring him back in two or three weeks when he was bigger (they called him Dusty, because he was).

Well, we got him home and I proceeded to give him a bath. I didn't think the poor little thing could look much worse until I got done with that bath, he was so wet and skinny and shaky, but my son wrapped him up in a towel and sat on the couch holding his new bundle of joy. My next worry was that my husband was due home for lunch any minute, he knew I was going to look at kittens but I was afraid he would label me nuts for the one I brought home. Well, he came home took one look at the cat, looked at me (with the "are you nuts?" look) then looked at his son and knew the whole story. After he was dry we decided to introduce him to his house mate Buster, who was enormous in comparison. Buster walked over to him, smelled him, let out a hiss, smacked him on the head as if to say "I was here first and I'm the king," and that was that. They were inseparable ever since. Obviously the name Dusty didn't stick, just a couple of days after his arrival Bozo was playing, hopping around and just being a very silly kitten when one of our boys said he acts like Bozo the Clown and it stuck.

Bozo was a very private cat, very much a loner. He loved my husband to death, my husband is the only one he would let pick him up. He liked to play with little fuzzy balls (we find them all over the house) and catnip toys. He loved to sleep in the sun, on the register when the heat was on, and curled up into Buster's stomach, as long as Buster would allow it. Bozo dearly loved Buster, when Buster was out of sight, Bozo would cry and call for him insistently until he had driven everyone in the house crazy. Bozo was a kitten I probably would not have brought home, but thanks to my son he made a good addition to our family. Sadly to report we lost Bozo in November of 2013 very unexpectedly. We came home one day to find him unresponsive on the floor, and the vet said it was too late. Our hearts ached. Then sadly three weeks later we sadly lost Buster, again very unexpectedly. We have been devestated. We loved them both very much.
