Louie, the Cat of the Day
Name: Louie
Age: Seven months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Tabby
Home: Handy Ridge, Tennessee, USA

Louie is probably only special to me, as after my Egyptian Mau of twenty years had to be put down, I swore I would never own another cat.

Louie was roughly six weeks old when some unsavory people placed a litter of kittens into a sack and tossed it into a fenced yard full of hunting dogs in order to dispose of them. Louie was one of the two that survived and the only one that lived to date. He was infested with fleas, malnourished and had respiratory problems. However, when this tiny blue-eyed kitten climbed up my pant leg and went to sleep, it was love at first sight. When I went to ask the woman who had initially saved him if she would consider letting me adopt him, she was already smiling and said, "I think he picked you and yes you can have him," without me even saying a word.

I was worried because while I do not hunt, I have large dogs that were bred for hunting bear and wild hogs, but it did not take long before he was adopted in their clan, and now the three often roam my property together and chase frogs and tadpoles at my pond. I was shocked, as my dogs are quite protective and territorial, but apparently view him as the scrawny little brother they watch out for.

I do not believe in fate or superstition, but sometimes life has a way about it and it seems Louie was meant to be here. And we are glad he is!
