Rosabelle, the Cat of the Day
Name: Rosabelle
Age: One year, seven months old
Gender: Female
Kind: Calico
Home: Seattle, Washington, USA

Rosabelle is, I think, the prettiest calico I have ever seen. And I get to see her every day! I feel so lucky! She is the perfect amount of playful, funny, loving, and energetic kitty without being too destructive or obnoxious around the house, but she also has some strength in her that other people or animals might not expect!

I adopted Rosie about a month and a half ago from a shelter in Woodinville, Washington called Homeward Pet, after I found their website and looked around a little bit. They are a wonderful shelter with many different kinds of cats and dogs to adopt, and have several locations all around the Seattle area. They mostly take in animals from rescue organizations or from owners who are no longer able to care for them. My favorite part about them though was that they are a no-kill shelter, meaning that they will not euthanize animals that can still be adopted when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia only for animals who are suffering or dangerous. This made me much more happy to adopt from them, and even more still when I saw how happy all the cats seemed being there. All of them looked very well cared for!

When I first brought her home, she was taking a little self-guided tour of her new house, and when she came up to the screen door leading out to the back yard, my 100 pound (45 kg) German Shepherd dog, named Panzer, came running right up to her and began to bark. She showed no sign of fear, however, and immediately arched her back, fluffed out her fur, and with a loud hiss, charged forward and took a huge swipe at the dog's nose. A direct hit! Panzer whined and jumped back, and ran off into the yard from whence he came. Rosie then returned to playing with a ball on a string that we had brought home for her, like nothing had happened. This was quite a shock to me!

I knew she would be a great cat from how sweet, playful, and lovey she was when we met, but she showed me a whole new side of her awesomeness with that little episode! Panzer won't even go near her to this day! If she decides to sleep in the middle of his huge "dog" bed, he never tries to reclaim it - he simply goes elsewhere!

Rpsabelle always spends countless hours making her coat look perfect for everyone to admire her! As for tricks and games, Rosie loves to play with just about anything we give her, but her favorite toy is probably peacock feathers that we wave in front of her and she chases. Sometimes when I move it up into the air, she will jump up almost four feet and grab it from me, and sometimes even does a full flip! You can probably imagine how surprised I was when I first saw her do that! Rosabelle is a not just a pretty cat, she is a member of the family!
