See Puss the Cat the Cat of the Day
Name: Puss
Age: Four years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Cat
Home: Kettle Falls, Washington, USA

We found Puss along the road about four years ago. We had found her after her mama cat was run over by a car, and when we found her she was all alone. She was very obviously the runt of her litter and had little chance of surviving on her own, so we took her in. We expected one of our other family members to take her as a pet but he never did, resulting in us keeping her.

She was a very playful kitten, she enjoyed playing with strings in the entirety. She would continuously untie people's shoes when they weren't looking, which always sort of amazed us. I remember when I would be standing, just minding my own business, and I would look down to see my shoes untied with a very triumphant kitten sitting beside me. Goodness, she was cute.

As she grew, we knew quickly she was going to be both an inside and outside cat. But one problem with letting her go outside was the amount of other cats on the property. As a very small cat, she was beat up a lot, especially by one specific stray that seemed about the size of a bobcat. He overpowered her easily, and she came home bleeding from wounds more times than I can count. She still insisted on going out. When she became fully grown, the fighting lessened, but she would still come home with scratches and scars. Eventually though, the stray disappeared without a trace, and the fighting stopped.

I remember one day though, she came into the house limping badly. I looked at her paw to find that she had torn her dew claw completely gone. There was no longer a claw to be seen, and the wound was bleeding badly. When we were finally able to get her to the vet, which is very far away, it had swelled greatly and was infected. It healed quickly enough once the infection was out, though. She is left with a small, scarred hole where the claw once was.

She is currently still very playful, especially around our other cat we own. She loves hunting mice whenever she goes outside, but has oddly never shown any interest toward birds. She is not a big tree-climber, but I often see her hiding in the bushes, waiting for prey. She loves to leave me mice by the front door, grinning a kitty grin when I come out to see her standing above it.

     She's just adorable.
