Miss Fisher the Domestic Shorthair
Name: Miss Fisher
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Domestic Shorthair
Home: St. Louis, Missouri, USA

This is not our first kitty, but she is definitely one of a kind. We had a black and white kitty for about eight years who passed away of cancer. We waited probably about seven years before getting another. As our first cat was of course our first love, she (Sadie) was definitely not a cuddly cat (sweet in her own way). So, with this kitty, when we first started thinking about adding to our family, I wanted a male (because all male kitties I knew were loving, and I really wanted a snuggle bug). I also always wanted an orange tabby. My husband really did not want another black and white, because our first kitty love, Sadie was black and white. So we agreed on what we wanted. As I took months to scour and scan the websites of the local shelters, I could not find any young orange tabby males. So I agreed to meet a shelter mom with two young female orange tabbies. She mentioned that she also had a very sweet black and white female and she was going to bring her as well. I immediately in my mind totally nixed the black and white female, but didn't mind to meet her as well.

We drove to PetCo that Saturday to meet our new "little one" assuming we would take home one of the orange tabbies. Well, the shelter mom met us in the little "adoption room" they have at PetCo stores to meet adoptive pets. She first brought in the orange tabby twins. Holy moly, those kitties were everywhere! Running all over the place, quickly climbing the towers and making a crazy run all over that room. And I thought to myself, “These are them together. What the heck would one be like by themselves?” My husband looked at me, we locked eyes, and immediately thought about the demise of our interiors in our loft. At that point, the shelter mom brought in the sweet black and white female (remember, my husband was afraid to "replace" our sweet Sadie). She came in the room and just watched those crazy two cats go nuts. She then came up to my chair, put her paws on my legs and let out the sweetest meow. I picked her up, she looked in my eyes and let out another sweet sound. I looked at my husband and gave him the eye meaning, “Well, we are screwed, this is our girl!” So we took home "Kit-Kat" on a two week trial basis. I knew we were going to keep her, but a great option to make sure the kitties are also comfortable in their new home.

She, like almost all cats when they first come home, hid for a few days in her room. But before we knew it, she was all over that loft. What I really love about Miss Fisher is that she talks all day. I don't think that cat is quiet unless she is sleeping. She also honestly acts like a dog. She follows me around everywhere talking as we are walking. She would prefer to be held all day and all night. We now actually share a pillow when we sleep. She has the kindest, sweetest little soul and she captured my heart the day I met her. She loves to help me make the bed, sit in her window seat and bark at pigeons, sleep in her bed in my office when I am working from home, hold hour long conversations, play with her food instead of actually eating it, and chasing imaginary images around the loft (we call this the rips, runs in circles like crazy). She also helped me make dresses for little girls in Haiti for my sister-in-law to take on a recent mission trip (if chasing her down for my measuring tape counts). We love her so much and truly feel like she was put with us for a reason. Thanks to Stray Haven in St. Louis, they brought us our sweet baby.
