I found our cat Grace through Facebook, on August 27, 2014. I cross post many cats, especially those who have disabilities or are blind, in an effort to try to help them find a loving furever home. When I saw Grace's photo, she stole my heart. Though I have staunchly refused to bring a second cat into the house (we rescued our cat Care Bear 10 years before), I couldn't stand the thought of her going to someone else. She was at the Wyandotte Animal Control in Michigan, listed as being blind and having a neurological disorder that made her wobbly, but I didn't care. I knew she had to be ours. After talking through Facebook and email with the people at the shelter, and making sure that she could handle stairs (we live in a three-story home), I headed out for the two and a half hour drive to the shelter two days later. The people there are amazing - full of love and caring for the animals. One woman even teared up as we were getting ready to leave.
Since bringing her home, Grace has showed us what a difference some love, play time and good nutrition can do for a cat. She has filled out and made leaps and bounds in her abilities. When we brought her home, she couldn't jump onto our low futon and her vision was terrible. Since then, she has learned to jump not only onto the futon, but onto the couches and kitchen chairs, as well. Her vision has improved too, though she still struggles in low lighting or if something is moving too fast, including herself, but she is a trooper. She loves to be held and have her face rubbed and is the sweetest soul you could ever want to meet. I'm amazed each day by how deeply rooted she is in my heart and can't wait to see what the next weeks, months, years and beyond may bring with her.
