Lola was found at two months old walking through the Fort Bragg, California, city dump, and a kind worker took her to the Mendocino Coast Humane Society shelter. They speculated that her mom was probably feral and moving her kittens, and somehow Lola was left behind.
I was traveling up that way and decided to stop by and donate to the shelter, and yes, I asked the fateful question, "May I see the kittens?" Though I had no intention of traveling four hours home with a frightened kitten, the moment I saw Lola, I knew she was mine. We've never looked back.
Lola is gorgeous—although her nose-liner isn't quite finished and some of her toes are bubblegum colored and others are black.
More importantly, Lola has become the love of my life—she has never and I'm sure will never hurt me. Even when I must gently scrape her out from under the bed to visit the vet or hit the road for another vacation in northern California, she won't bite or scratch. She is completely loving.
As the photos attest, she is a fine companion—helping me press laundry, wash windows, work at my computer, and practice my sax. I don't know what I'd do without Lola. She's a gem!
