Spooky the House Cat, the Cat of the Day
Name: Spooky
Age: One and a half years old
Gender: Male
Kind: House Cat
Home: Washington, USA

Spooky is my family's big, chunky, lovable house cat. He's a gigantic tomcat, and one of the kindest pets I have ever owned- my life wouldn't be the same without him. He wears a bow because he is a gift. He's a precious chubby darling and the best boy there could ever be. He's worn that bow for months and never once seem bothered by it!

His origin story is actually pretty strange. My family has been volunteering at a local animal shelter for years, so my sister often keeps up with lost and found animal pages on Facebook in case she can help. It just so happens that one day, she saw a found cat post from an area very nearby our home. We live in the middle of the forest, in a very rural area of Washington state; so we thought it was very important to get this cat to somewhere indoors and safe as soon as we could! The post said that the cat was an abandoned young mother who had previously had kittens.

My mother and sister went to go get the cat, as we planned to hold it for the weekend before delivering to the shelter on Monday. But when they showed up, they were surprised to find that the cat was neither a mother nor a female- it was an older male kitten! Regardless, the man said he had no interest in keeping the cat. He had found it in his barn that morning, and it didn't belong to him.

So we kept the little boy, all the while posting on Facebook and asking if anyone had lost a black cat in our area. But not a single person claimed him. We were fools to think we could keep him for a whole weekend and then just deliver him to the shelter! By the time Monday came around, we had all fallen in love with the little dork. We named him Spooky, since it was October.

He has the most calm, playful, and loving temperament of any cat I have ever met. He rarely loses his temper and bites, and when he does get angry he doesn't hold a grudge. Although, his overly eager and playful disposition doesn't win him any points with my family's other cat, a 14-year-old, grouchy, rough-and-tumble indoor/outdoor cat named Kitty. (She's not a big fan.)

His pastimes include snuggling underneath piles of blankets and energetically chasing laser pointer dots. He is a big fan of white bread for some reason (we have to make sure not to leave the groceries on the ground, or he'll tear straight through the bread bags!) but loves all kinds of food, as a rule. Spooky has lately become a fan of television, hitting the screen with his paws when things move.

There's so much more I could say about him, but if I typed out everything I loved about him I'd be typing for days! Regardless, I love him more than anything, and I know my family does to. I'm so grateful he came into our lives that day.
