Squeety the Norwegian Forest Cat mix, the Cat of the Day
Name: Squeety
Age: Sixteen years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Norwegian Forest Cat mix
Home: Virginia, USA

This is Squeety. He is my grandmother's cat, but he has known me since I was born and has always been a special part of my life. My grandmother got him while she lived in Las Vegas, Nevada so Squeety was born there, but now he lives in Virginia.

Squeety is very much a lap cat. Every time you sit in front of the television, he will jump up on you and demand your attention, wanting to find a comfortable resting place right on top of you! :) He won't let you get up! He wants to stay sitting on you until he decides it's time to leave.

Squeety loves to be stroked and loved on, but if you pet him too much, he will let you know with a small bite on your hand. It's not usually that bad, but occasionally he will almost break the skin, which isn't good. But most of the ime when I pet him or hold him, he won't bite and is very sweet. Only when he doesn't feel like being loved on at the moment.

Squeety is good with the other dogs that live with him. Sometimes I will even see him try to rub up against Lily, my grandmother's small black dog who is one of his doggy siblings. When I visit my grandmother's house, he is always very affectionate and loving towards me.

When you pick him up, he goes limp, like a ragdoll cat. Sometimes he will let my grandmother hang him around her neck like a scarf and he just lies there! We don't know his breed but maybe he has some ragdoll in his DNA!

Recently, Squeety was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. My grandmother has gotten special food that cats with this illness are supposed to eat. The same thing happened to Meemur, Squeety's kitty brother who he was with for most of his life. Meemur passed away last year, and he is missed very much by Squeety, and the humans who were in his life. Squeety has been showing the same signs as Meemur did, and so we pretty much knew that he had the same sickness. He is not eating as much, and when he does, my grandmother has to be standing right next to him and talk to him while he does it (otherwise, he refuses to eat anything). Kidney Failure is a sickness that sadly, many cats suffer from, and it has no cure. There are ways to slow it down but no way to stop it entirely.

We don't know exactly how much longer Squeety has, but we think about 6 months. Meemur had around a year, but it is slightly different with Squeety. We are doing everything we can to make it so Squeety won't suffer. He knows that he is very loved and will continue to be even after he goes to the Rainbow Bridge. I will treasure every moment I have with him and hope that he won't leave us too quickly. He is one of the bets cats in the world, and hopefully we will meet again in another life. I wanted to honor Squeety before he leaves us. I hope you all love him as much as we do! He is a very special kitty cat indeed.

We love you forever, dearest Squeety.
